March retail inflation at three-month low of 5.17%

India`s annual consumer price inflation unexpectedly slowed down to a three-month low of 5.17 percent in March as food prices moderated, government data showed on Monday.

New Dehli: India`s consumer price inflation (CPI) cooled down to a three-month low of 5.17 percent in March on the back of moderating food prices, government data showed on Monday.

The March CPI was considerably down from 8.25 percent recorded in the corresponding month of 2014.

The CPI urban for March stood at 4.75 percent and rural at 5.58 percent.

Food price inflation for March 2015 stood at 6.14 percent as compared to 6.88 percent in previous month.

The CPI-based retail inflation has been calculated with a new base year of 2012.
