New Delhi: India is growing at a fast pace and reforms initiated by the government across various sectors are showing visible signs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday, while talking at the HT Leadership Summit.

"Among world economies, India is seen as one of the fastest growing. All this when the world economy is slowing down," said the Prime Minister.

Modi said that the government has been able to plug the leakage in kerosene. "On a pilot basis we tried to make Chandigarh free from kerosene," and saved 30 lakh litre of kerosene, said the PM.

He also said that government's effort in encouraging the well-off to give up LPG subsidy is ongoing. "Around 40 lakh people have already given up subsidy on LPG,which in turn has been distributed to 40 lakh poor households who were using firewood," said Modi.

Modi added that there will not be no equanimity in growth if only the west of India grows, and growth in the north remains sluggish.

He added that the development of India's eastern part cannot be ignored, as the region offers great potential. He added that Eastern India will be linked to a gas grid.

States which were usually ignored, Odisha, Jharkhand & Chhattisgarh, did well in 'Ease of Doing Business' rankings, he said.

Modi also talked about reforms in plugging loopholes in the distribution of urea.

Electricity generation is growing at 8.5 percent in India, said the Prime Minister, adding that rural electrification was taking place at a fast pace, which could be monitored on Grameen Vidutikaran app on a mobile phone. "3004 villages have got electricity in the last 100 days", said the Prime Minster Modi.

He called for the need for improvement in the infrastructure sector, adding that Shipping India had begun reaping the reforms in the sector, as well as there is a plan to connect Indian ports with a rail network.

Modi harped on the need for the states and centre to work together. "Till now Delhi decided where states will spend money. This has changed and now CMs decide where money will be spent," added the PM.

He also talked of the need of a concrete intention, policy, strategy and implementation scheme, if the country was to move ahead.
