New Delhi: Online hiring registered an increase of 12 percent on higher demand for professionals during February over the year ago period, says a report.

According to the job portal TimesJobs.Com's job index RecruiteX, the demand for professionals in the IT/telecom sector was the largest which clocked a 22 percent increase in talent.

The IT/telecom sector was the top employment generator in January 2015 as well. Between Jan-Feb 2015, hiring in the sector registered an average increase of 7 percent in demand.

Sector-wise, consulting services and automobile sectors saw 19 and 18 percent growth in demand in February 2015, while the construction sector posted a 16 per cent rise in demand.

Demand in entertainment/media and projects/infrastructure sectors grew by 11 percent, whereas petrochemical and manufacturing sectors posted 8 percent increase.

Among the metros, Delhi-NCR and Chennai saw 19 percent rise in demand year-on-year(y-o-y), according to the report.

Hyderabad posted the highest uptake in demand at 36 percent y-o-y.

As per the report, among Tier II and III cities, Indore registered 13 percent rise in demand and among the states, demand in Karnataka (except Bengaluru) saw 31 percent increase.

Demand for engineers grew by 26 percent y-o-y, reporting an average 6 percent rise since the beginning of 2015 (between Jan-Feb 2015).

The report further said the demand index for senior professionals with over 20 years experience posted 25 percent increase y-o-y. Candidates with 10-20 years experience witnessed 16 percent rise in demand, as per the TimesJobs.Com data.

Demand for candidates with 5-10 years experience went up by 6 percent y-o-y while candidates with 10-20 years experience reported 2 per cent rise in February 2015.
