Growth in 8 core sector industries slows to 1.9 % in September

The growth of eight core sector industries slowed to 1.9 per cent in September as against 9 per cent in the same month previous year pulled down by decline in the production of crude oil and natural gas.

New Delhi: The growth of eight core sector industries plunged to eight-month low of 1.9 per cent in September as against 9 per cent in the same month previous year pulled down by decline in the production of crude oil and natural gas.

In August the eight core industries grew by 5.8 percent led by healthy growth in coal, cement and electricity sectors.

In September coal production increased by 7.2 per cent, steel increased by 4.0 per cent and cement increased by 3.2 per cent.

Electricity generation also increased by 3.8 per cent.

However, the growth was pulled down by the decline in the production of crude oil which fell by 1.1 per cent, natural gas by 6.2 per cent, petroleum refinery production by 2.5 per cent and fertilizer output fell by 11.6 per cent.

The eight core sectors have a combined weight of about 38 per cent in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
