New Delhi: The ruling government is mulling over a plan to distribute 10 crore liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) connections in the next 3 years. As per media reports, it is planning to ease norms for distribution of connections. It will benefit people in the small towns and villages the most. The government plans to add to the list about 10,000 new LPG distributors. At present, there are nearly about 17,000 LPG distributors in the country.

What's the Proposal?

Petroleum Ministry is planning to distribute 10 crore LPG connections in the next 3 years. Out of which 5 crore customers belong to below poverty line (BPL) and other 5 core to Above Poverty Line (APL) category. The government's target that about 26 crore families have LPG connection in next 3 years.

 

As per media reports, relaxation may be introduced in the educational qualifications, guarantee amount and ownership of land. If changes get through, ownership of land may not be mandatory rule for applying for a LPG dealership in small cities and villages, against the current scenario.

Similarly, guarantee amount limit will also be reduced. Presently, under general category, depending on area about Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh of guarnatee amount is required for applying for leadership.

Under Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe category, Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh is required.

As per media sources, most distributors will be from small cities and rural areas. The government is planning to provide LPG connection to all families in the next 3 years.
