Commerce Min calls on Modi to discuss trade, investment issues

Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss trade and investment related issues.

New Delhi: Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss trade and investment related issues.

"Met Hon'ble PM today. Discussed various issues related to trade and investment," Sitharaman tweeted.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of need to further boost the country's exports and foreign direct investment to push growth, which has remained below 5 percent for the second year in a row in 2013-14.

The country's exports in the last three years have been hovering around USD 300 billion. India's exports in 2013-14 fell short of the USD 325 billion target and managed to reach USD 312.35 billion. Exports stood at USD 300.4 billion in 2012-13 and USD 307 billion in 2011-12.

FDI in the country grew by only 8 percent in 2013-14 to USD 24.29 billion.
Meanwhile in another tweet she said: "Called on Hon'ble Speaker of Lok Sabha Smt Sumitra Mahajan".
