Coal scam: Ex-CBI chief Ranjit Sinha's meetings with accused inappropriate, says SC

The Supreme Court on Thursday termed the meetings of former CBI Director Ranjit Sinha with various accused at his residence as inappropriate.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday termed the meetings of former CBI Director Ranjit Sinha with various accused at his residence as inappropriate.

The supreme court said that it was “completely inappropriate to meet accused before chargesheet.”

Pronouncing its verdict on on a plea filed by an NGO seeking a probe by a Special Investigating Team (SIT) against Ranjit Sinha for allegedly scuttling the probe into a coal block allocation scam case, the SC further directed CVC to assist in investigation of Sinha.

The apex court has asked the CVC to file report on alleged meetings of Sinha with persons including accused in coalgate and 2G scam.

The SC has also dismissed the plea of Sinha seeking prosecution of lawyer Prashant Bhushan for alleged perjury.

“Perjury applications against us by Ranjit Sinha have been dismissed by the court,” Prashant Bhushan said.
