CBI files case against ex-disinvestment secy Pradip Baijal

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a case against ex-disinvestment secretary Pradip Baijal for allegedly selling a hotel in Udaipur for Rs 7 crore only while its real worth was Rs 150 crore.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a case against ex-disinvestment secretary Pradip Baijal for allegedly selling a hotel in Udaipur for Rs 7 crore only while its real worth was Rs 150 crore.

Baijal, as the disinvestment secretary in 2001-2002 had allegedly undervalued the Lakshmi Vilas Palace Hotel in Udaipur and sold it off for a mere Rs 7 crore instead of its real worth which stands at Rs 150 crore.

Arun Shourie was the disinvestment minister during the period.

A former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) office, Baijal retired at the chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in 2006.

He had also been raided by the CBI in connection with the 2G spectrum allocations case.
