Tata Steel given PM's trophy for steel plant

Prime Minister's trophy for the 'Best Performing Integrated Steel Plant' was on Wednesday conferred on Tata Steel.

New Delhi: Prime Minister's trophy for the 'Best Performing Integrated Steel Plant' was on Wednesday conferred on Tata Steel.

The trophy was presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tata Steel MD, India and South East Asia, T V Narendran, a company statement said.

"Its an honour to receive this award from our Prime Minister. It has always been our endeavor to set the benchmark of excellence in efficiency, quality and sustainability in all our operations," Narendran said.

This award (for the year 2010-11), will "greatly motivate us" to create higher benchmarks in the steel industry, and to make a meaningful contribution to society and the nation, he added.

The Steel Minister's trophy, for the runners up, was given to Sail's Bhilai steel plant.

Incorporated in 1992, the award is given every year "to generate a sense of competition and for improvement of performance of the integrated steel plants" along with a cash prize of Rs 2 crore.

The runner-up is awarded with the Steel Minister's trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 1 crore.
