SBI opens 6 digital branches

State Bank of India (SBI) opened 'sbiINTOUCH' outlets in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Ahmedabad.

New Delhi: Launching its next generation banking initiative, SBI on Tuesday opened six digital branches, which offer services like instant account opening and personalised debit cards.

State Bank of India (SBI) opened 'sbiINTOUCH' outlets in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Ahmedabad on the occasion of its 60th Foundation Day. The Kolkata branch is opening shortly.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley inaugurated the branches on Tuesday. They will work between 10am and 10pm and all the seven days in the week.

"With the innovative technology and user-friendly features at the digital stores, SBI has led the way in digital innovation in the Indian banking industry," Jaitley said.

In the long-run, this would cut down on cost and time spent in branches, the Finance Minister added
He expressed the hope that other banks would follow suit by opening digital branches.

SBI Chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya said these outlets would instantly provide personalised debit cards and ATM machines that accept deposits, among other services.

"In this digital store, we are bringing together the offerings from across our group companies, including insurnace, MFs, credit cards for their convenience," she said.

Global consultancy firm Accenture provided technical support as well as training of employees for roll out sbiINTOUCH outlets.
