Samsung India likely to cut about 1,000 jobs by March

With an aim to right-size the company while improving efficiency and productivity, Samsung Electronics is likely to cut as many as 750-1000 of it staffs in India by March 2016.

New Delhi: With an aim to right-size the company while improving efficiency and productivity, Samsung Electronics is likely to cut as many as 750-1000 of it staffs in India by March 2016.

The lay off will range from managerial-level executives to blue colour workers, says a report.

According to The Times of India report, Samsung has also asked 90 staffs to put in their papers with immediate effect while another 125-150 will be asked to leave after Diwali.

The remainder will be laid off in phases between December and March which will total of 750-1000 staffs or 5 percent of the 22,000 employees in India, said the report.

As per the report, about 35 of those asked to leave are in the grade of general manager or higher with four senior executives at vice president level having already quit – they are SK Sharma (taxation), Rajinder Sharma (legal head) and has joined Flipkart, Sanjay Bali (HR head) and Vipin Tuteja, who looked after the printer business.

However, those asked to leave have been paid a compensation of three-six month's salary.
