Ready to help SpiceJet, says government

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma said that some relaxations have been given and the government is working in the best interest of fair governance.

New Delhi: The government on Tuesday said the government is ready to work out and help SpiceJet if they come out with a concrete proposals.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma said that some relaxations have been given and the government is working in the best interest of fair governance.

Sharma also said that SpiceJet has given a request in wider interest of industry and the government has considered from all angles.

The Aviation Ministry has given the airline two weeks to clear Airport Authority of India's Rs 200-crore dues or give an enhanced bank guarantee. The airline could be put on a cash and carry mode if it fails to settle dues.

The airline officials met ministry officials on Monday seeking some relief from the government.
Low cost airline's Chief Operating Officer Sanjiv Kapoor met Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Monday, with official sources saying that the government has asked it to continue operations over the next fortnight.
