Online hiring activity in India registered a 26 percent rise during April as against the same month a year ago, signalling a robust growth in the jobs market amid sustained economic recovery, says a survey.

New Delhi: Online hiring activity in India registered a 26 percent rise during April as against the same month a year ago, signalling a robust growth in the jobs market amid sustained economic recovery, says a survey.

The Monster.Com's employment index, a monthly gauge of the country's online job demand rose by 13 points to 191 in April this year, from 151 in the same period last year.

"The Monster Employment Index has shown a robust growth in online job opportunities in April this year. The 26 percent growth is evidence to a progressively growing employment market," Sanjay Modi MD Monster.Com (India/Middle-East/South East Asia/Hong Kong) said.

On a month-on-month basis as well, the index witnessed a significant uptrend in online hiring activity as the month of April saw an increase of 13 points from 178 points in March.

Of the 27 industry sectors monitored by the Index, online recruitment activity exceeded the year-ago level in 14 industry groups.

Production and manufacturing saw dramatic growth (up 62 percent) in opportunities from the year-ago this month.

"The 62 percent increase in Production & Manufacturing opportunities is encouraging and is quite a symbolic change with the government's efforts towards creating growth story for India," Modi said.

Meanwhile, online hiring activity improved for 12 of the 13 occupation groups monitored by the Index.

Citywise, all 13 cities monitored by the Index exhibited positive year-on-year growth even this month.

Baroda (up 43 percent) and Kochi (up 42 percent) once again led all monitored cities charting the steepest growth. While, among major cities, Mumbai registered 23 percent jump in online hiring, Bangalore (22 percent), the report said.
