Director General of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Chandrajit Banerjee, has said that US President Obama's visit as the Chief Guest at Republic Day signifies an inflection point in the US-India bilateral relationship.

New Delhi: Director General of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Chandrajit Banerjee, has said that US President Obama's visit as the Chief Guest at Republic Day signifies an inflection point in the US-India bilateral relationship.

"US President Obama's visit as the Chief Guest at India's Republic Day signifies an inflection point in the US-India bilateral relationship. CII believes that enhanced cooperation is possible in areas such as defense, infrastructure, high technology, education, and energy," said Chandrajit Banerjee, the Director General of CII in a statement.

" CII is optimistic that there will be breakthrough on issues such as operationalizing the US-India civil nuclear agreement; solidifying the defense relationship through announcement of co-production and co-development projects; collaborative ventures on renewable energy; and concrete advancement of US private sector participation in developing India's infrastructure, including smart cities," he added.

President Obama is the first U.S. president to attend the Republic Day celebrations and is also the first U.S. president to visit the country twice while in office.
