New Delhi: State-run NTPC Tuesday said its Kahalgaon power station does not face any threat of closure after 2017 in view of delay in building a new lagoon for dumping waste ash slurry.
NTPC would have to build a new lagoon for dumping waste ash slurry because of encroachment on its land in a nearby village where it has to come up.
"There are no threats as such. Media news regarding this matter is just an apprehension. Management is already sensitive towards any such issues and making all out efforts to maintain generation at kahalgaon super thermal power station, in Bihar," NTPC Ltd said in BSE filing today.
The company has filed its statement in response to a clarification sought by the exchange on a media report.
The company further said in the statement, "We have just confirmed from our Kahalgaon station and confirm that Kahalgaon has an installed capacity of 4x210+3x500=2340 MW and all 7 units are on bar as of now and generating as per schedule received from customers."
Earlier, Group General Manager of NTPC Kahalgaon, N N Mishra had told PTI, "If a new Ash Dyke Lagoon-3D does not come on time there is a danger of closure of the plant after 2017."
Mishra had said the proposed lagoon has to come at Majdaha village, about 2.5 km from the plant in Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur district, but due to encroachment on the land the work could not start.
He had further said the NTPC authorities have approached Bhagalpur district administration several times on the problem but so far the issue had not been resolved.
