Nasscom inks MoU with CMR University for training programmes

The National Association of Software Services Companies (Nasscom) said here today that it has signed an MoU with the Bangalore-based CMR University (CMRU) to offer measurable training programs to students and enhance employability skill sets of engineering graduates.

Mumbai: The National Association of Software Services Companies (Nasscom) said here today that it has signed an MoU with the Bangalore-based CMR University (CMRU) to offer measurable training programs to students and enhance employability skill sets of engineering graduates.

Under the agreement, CMR University would integrate Global Business Foundation Skills (GBFS) Courseware, developed by Nasscom, in its curriculum, an official release said.

"This MoU is a key milestone in our mission to develop a skills ready workforce", Nasscom Vice President and Executive Director for Sector Skills Council Sandhya Chintala said.

The Sector Skills Council (SSC), the skill standard setting body of the IT-ITeS industry is Nasscom's education and skill development initiative.

According to a Nasscom report, Indian IT-ITeS industry currently employs about 31 lakh people directly and about 90 lakh indirectly. The industry has a potential to contribute to, as much as, three crore employment opportunities by 2020, while about 50 crore professionals would need to be skilled by 2022, to make them employable, the report said.

"To achieve th target, a structured approach involving all stakeholders is imperative. Through this collaboration, Nasscom hopes that it will be able to nurture the next generation of talent for the industry," Chintala said.

As part of the tie-up, the SSC would conduct 'train-the-trainer' programmes for college faculty involved in this project to give them a holistic view of the initiative, the release said.
Nasscom also plans to provide guidelines and recommendations related to aspects of GBFS programmes like faculty selection, student selection, infrastructure for training and evaluation, the release said.

Besides, CMR University would conduct Nasscom's assessment of competence before and after GBFS training, as well as mobilise the faculty to facilitate teaching and learning support for pursuance of courses to enhance student employability, the release said.
