Idea shares gain nearly 3%

Idea Cellular's scrip climbed 2.50 percent to settle at Rs 178.25 on the BSE. During the day, it went up by 3.19 percent to Rs 179.45.

Mumbai: Shares of Idea Cellular Friday gained nearly three percent after the company announced hiking mobile data rates by up to 100 percent for pre-paid customers in Delhi.

Idea Cellular's scrip climbed 2.50 percent to settle at Rs 178.25 on the BSE. During the day, it went up by 3.19 percent to Rs 179.45.

On the NSE, it ended with a gain of 2.75 percent at Rs 178.80.

Following the rise in the stock, the company's market capitalisation went up by Rs 1,574.34 crore to Rs 64,140.34 crore.

Idea Cellular had hiked mobile data rates by up to 100 percent for pre-paid customers in the NCR region, becoming the first telecom operator to raise tariffs after the spectrum auction in March.

The country's third largest telco has doubled the price for some 2G plans, while 3G services will be costlier by about 33 percent.

The new rates came into effect from June 3.

Idea was successful in securing spectrum in nine telecom circles where its licences came up for renewal. The company was top bidder in the auction with total commitment of about Rs 30,300 crore.
