ICICI Bank launches co-branded card with Delhi Metro

The bank has also tied up with metro rail operators to launch similar cards for metro commuters in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore.

New Delhi: ICICI Bank in association with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday launched co-branded card with host of benefits for metro riders.

Unifare Card combines the benefits of a debit/credit card along with a Delhi Metro Smart Card and has the added facility of auto top-up of fare balance, ICICI Bank Executive Director Rajiv Sabharwal said here.

Out of the 24 lakh metro riders everyday, the bank expects to issue one lakh cards by March 2015, he said.

At present, the private sector bank has card user base of 2.5 crore.
Explaining features of the card, he said, the unique auto top-up facility on the card automatically recharges the amount on the transit chip when the balance drops below a certain specified threshold limit.

The auto top-up is triggered at the start of the customer's journey when the transit chip makes contact with the Delhi Metro servers at the entry gate, he said.

The card offers a 10 percent discount on travel fare at Delhi Metro, as available on metro smart cards and 2.5 percent fuel surcharge waiver across HPCL pumps, he said, adding, the user would also be entitled to reward points based on card spent.

Speaking at the occasion Mangu Singh, MD, DMRC, said: "We aim to provide hassle free travel to our commuters and seamless payment options are an integral part of that proposition. This is the next step in providing that convenience.

The bank has also tied up with metro rail operators to launch similar cards for metro commuters in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
