Govt accepts resignation of Rao as Coal India CMD

Rao is set to take charge as Principal Secretary to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

New Delhi:The government has accepted the resignation of S Narsing Rao from the post of Chairman and Managing Director of Coal India Ltd, requesting him to hand over the charge to Additional Secretary (Coal) A K Dubey.

Rao is set to take charge as Principal Secretary to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
In a letter to Narsing Rao dated June 24, the Coal Ministry said that it is "directed to...Convey the approval of the competent authority to the acceptance of your resignation from the post of CMD,
CIL with immediate effect by waiving the three month's notice period".

The ministry has asked Rao to inform the Telangana government that his appointment as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of the new state can only be on reemployment on contract basis.

"You are requested to hand over charge to A K Dubey, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal," the ministry said.

Rao took over as Chairman of CIL, in April, 2012.

Prior to the top post at the 'Maharatna' coal mining monolith, Rao - an IAS officer of 1986 batch from Andhra Pradesh Cadre - was Chairman of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), the AP-based coal mining company from September 2006.
