Gopal Vittal, Kapania appointed on GSMA board

Bharti Airtel Managing Director and CEO (India and South Asia) Gopal Vittal and Idea Cellular MD Himanshu Kapania have been appointed as board members of global telecom body GSMA.

New Delhi: Bharti Airtel Managing Director and CEO (India and South Asia) Gopal Vittal and Idea Cellular MD Himanshu Kapania have been appointed as board members of global telecom body GSMA.

The association, which represents around 800 world mobile operators, also re-elected Telenor Group President and CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas as Chair and elected Etisalat Group CEO Ahmad Abdulkarim Julfar as Deputy Chair, GSMA said in a statement.

The GSMA Board has 26 members, including 25 operator representatives from the world's largest operator groups as well as smaller, independent operators with global representation.

The GSMA's Director General Anne Bouverot also serves on the GSMA Board.

The newly elected board will serve from January 2015 through December 2016.
