New Delhi: Good news for those cellphone users who often face poor network and high call drop rates.

From August this year, if a cellphone user faces call drop problem, he/she will be compensated with the call rate by his/her telecom operator and the money will be credited to the balance in his/her mobile, according to various media reports.

After three-month trial, the project is now complete. The Telecom Department has got itself such devices that will monitor all the mobile circles in the country. Through this new technology, the department will come to know about the timing and frequency of call drops for a particular mobile number.

According to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India regulations, the call drop rate should be less than 2 percent but it is constantly increasing and has reached to 14 percent. In India, on an average, after every 4-5 calls, a caller faces a problem of call drop.

The TRAI has defined various quality of service benchmarks that telecom operators need to adhere to while providing service to consumers. It includes benchmarks for call drops, billing, complaint redressal time and time taken to attend customer calls, among others.
