'EY tops in deal volume, Citi in value so far this year'

Mumbai: With closing 16 deals, EY has emerged as the busiest arranger in the merger and acquisitions space this year in the country, while Citi tops by value, according to data compiled by Mergermarket.

EY (formerly Ernst & Young), the accounts, taxation and consultancy major, advised as many 16 deals with an underlying value of USD 5.295 billion from January till September, Mergermarket said.

These 16 deals, were, however lower than the 20 deals it clocked in the same period last year.

Going by values, Citi tops the table with USD 8.214 billion through five deals in the first nine months, which is higher than USD 8.622 billion from four deals it had achieved last year.

In terms of value, EY comes second and is followed by the domestic i-banker JM Financial with USD 4.337 billion, Evercore Partners with USD 4.047 billion and ICICI Securities at 4.023 billion, the data compilation showed.

On the deal count, home grown i-banker Avendus Capital came in second with 11 deals, followed by Rothschilds with nine, KPMG with eight and Kotak Investment Banking with seven deals.
