New Delhi: The requirement of phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilisers like DAP and MoP is estimated at 13.25 million tonnes (MT) and 5.05 million tonnes, respectively, for the current fiscal.
The government has pegged import of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) at 9.1 million tonnes and that of muriate of potash (MoP) at 5 million tonnes in 2012-13 fiscal, as per the data presented by Minister of State for Fertilisers Srikant Kumar Jena in the Lok Sabha.
The requirement of urea is estimated at 32.02 million tonnes and its import has been pegged at 9 million tonnes in this fiscal, the data showed.
"The central government assesses the state-wise and month-wise demand of fertilisers before each cropping season in zonal conferences on agricultural inputs in which representatives of state governments and fertiliser industry participate," Jena said.
The country is fully dependent on imports to meet the domestic MoP demand. Almost 90 percent requirement of DAP and 20 percent of urea is met through imports.
In the first four months on 2012-13 fiscal, the country has imported 1.42 million tonnes of urea, 1.43 million tonnes of DAP and 8.28 lakh tonnes of MoP.
The inbound shipments of urea, DAP and MoP stood at 7.83 million tonnes, 6.91 million tonnes and 2.69 million tonnes, respectively, in the 2011-12 fiscal.
