Coal scam: Special Court to consider chargesheet against Naveen Jindal on May 6

The Special Court on Thursday fixed May 6 as the date when it will consider the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chargesheet against Naveen Jindal and 14 others in the coal block allocation case.

New Delhi: The Special Court on Thursday fixed May 6 as the date when it will consider the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chargesheet against Naveen Jindal and 14 others in the coal block allocation case.

The Court also pulled up CBI for not seizing passport of Jindal. In response, the CBI told the court: “It was decided in our office that passport of Naveen Jindal could not be seized during the probe.”

The Special Court directed the CBI director to to ensure that a uniform policy is laid down to be followed on such issues. It told the agency that it can't adopt a different policy for different sets of
accused in seizing passport.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday the CBI chargesheeted Naveen Jindal and 14 others, including former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, regarding alleged irregularities in the allocation of the Amarkonda Murgadangal coal block in Jharkhand in 2008.

The others named in the chargesheet include former minister of state for coal Dasari Narayana Rao, former coal secretary H C Gupta, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) and Jindal Realty Pvt. Ltd, Gagan Sponge Iron Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi Exim Pvt. Ltd and Sowbhagya Media Ltd.
