New Delhi: Bharti Retail Thursday said it has appointed Craig Wimsatt as Chief Operating Officer (COO) with immediate effect.

In his new role, Wimsatt will be responsible for operations, merchandising, including marketing and supply chain and logistics functions, the company said in a statement issued Thursday.

Commenting on the appointment, Bharti Retail MD and CEO Raj Jain said: "The appointment of Craig is in line with our commitment to operate world-class stores for our customers. I am confident Craig's rich experience across diverse geographies and functions will add immense value to Bharti Retail's ambitious growth plans."

Like Jain, Wimsatt was also associated with Bharti-Walmart JV.

In October last year, Bharti Enterprises and Walmart called off their six-year old JV to pursue businesses independently.

Wimsatt will report to Jain.

Bharti Retail currently operates 212 stores in neighbourhood and compact hypermarket formats across 11 states, it added.
