Ambani, Adani, Kochar part of PM's biz delegation to Japan

In 2012-13, Japan-India bilateral trade reached USD 18.61 billion, marginally higher than USD 18.43 billion in the previous year.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will embark on a four-day trip to Japan from August 31 to bolster bilateral ties in key areas of civil nuclear cooperation, security, defence and trade, will be accompanied by the stalwarts of India Inc.

As per a daily newspaper, a list of 50 industrialists and senior business was submitted to Modi by the PMO out of which he has personally selected Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani group, Dilip Shanghvi, chairman and managing director of Sun Pharmaceuticals, Azim Premji, chairman of Wipro, Chanda Kochhar, managing director and CEO of ICICI Bank, Shashi Ruia, Chairman of Essar Group, S Ramadorai, vice chairman of TCS and an adviser to the prime minister in the National Council on Skill Development, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, chairman and managing director of Biocon, K Venkataramanan, chief executive officer and managing director of Larsen & Toubro, D K Sarraf, chairman and managing director of ONGC and Sunil Mittal, chairman and group CEO of Bharti Enterprises.

Modi was scheduled to visit Japan in July but the trip was postponed in view of the Budget session of Parliament.

In 2012-13, Japan-India bilateral trade reached USD 18.61 billion, marginally higher than USD 18.43 billion in the previous year.

India's primary exports to Japan have been petroleum products, iron ore, gems and jewelry, marine products, oil meals, ferroalloys and chemicals.

India's primary imports from Japan are machinery, transport equipment, iron and steel, electronic goods, organic chemicals, machine tools, etc.

Japanese companies have made an investment of USD 12.66 billion in India between April 2000 and June 2012.

This accounted for 7 per cent of total FDI inflow into India and made Japan the 4th largest investor in India.

Japan will be be Modi's third bilateral visit as PM after Bhutan and Nepal. He had also visited Brazil last month for the multilateral BRICS summit .
