AirAsia to launch daily Guwahati-Imphal flight from June 25

Budget carrier Air Asia India Thursday added Imphal to its network of destinations with daily flights from Guwahati, starting from June 25.

New Delhi: Meeting the mandatory requirements of the route dispersal guidelines (RDGs), budget carrier AirAsia India would launch its flight services to Imphal from Guwahati later this month with a promotional fare of Rs 900.

Under the RDGs, all Indian carriers have to deploy at least 10 percent of their capacity on remote routes, termed Category II routes, which may be commercially unviable but socially important.

The airline will start daily flights from Guwahati to Imphal from June 25, AirAsia India said in a release today.

To celebrate the launch of the new route, AirAsia India is offering inaugural fares from as low as Rs 900 from Guwahati to Imphal and vice versa, the airline said.

The offer provides a four-day window for booking of the tickets, starting from today while the travel can be under taken from June 25 to May 31 next year, the release said.

"Imphal is a market with huge potential and we are certain this route will further stimulate and encourage affordable air travel. The positive feedback we have been receiving from our guests on our product and services has been very encouraging as we continue to expand our network," AirAsia India chief executive Mitty Chandilya said.

AirAsia's network in India now includes Delhi, Vishakhapatnam, Imphal, Chennai, Kochi, Goa, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Pune, and Bengaluru.

The carrier, which started its operations in India last June, posted a net loss of Rs 19 crore in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014-15.
