New Delhi: Trouble for CBI chief Ranjit Sinha seems to be mounting as activist-advocate Prashant Bhushan told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that top officials of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) met the Central Bureau of Investigation director at least 50 times in 15 months at his official residence in Delhi.

A bench headed by Justice HL Dattu said it will take up on Thursday Bhushan’s plea seeking recusal of the CBI director from the 2G scam investigation on the alleged ground that he was trying to scuttle it.

The bench also asked Bhushan to submit in a sealed cover copies of the CBI director’s residence visitor entry book, allegedly revealing frequent visits by Reliance ADAG executives, who are accused in the 2G scam and coal scam, and alleged middlemen.

Meanwhile, CBI director's counsel has denied the allegations, saying it was an attempt to defame his client and derail investigations into the crucial cases.

The bench also appointed senior advocate Anand Grover as the new prosecutor in the 2G trial. He replaces UU Lalit who has since been appointed judge of the apex court.
