Following the huge success of its Moto G smartphone, Motorola has launched an improved version, the Moto G 2nd Generation, in the Indian smartphone market. The smartphone is available exclusively on e-retail giant Flipkart for Rs 12,999.
Wth this new launch, fans and critics have perhaps questioned the need for the Moto G 2nd Generation when its predeccesor, the Moto G was still a hit with the smartphone lovers. One will not deny that the smartphone brought back Motorola into the smartphone market competition. Moreover, considering that the company launched their first smartphone after a hiatus of about two years.
And there is actually no need to compare these two smartphones from Motorola considering that the Moto G has been discontinued (for now) following the launch of the Moto G 2nd Generation in the market. But then again, the desire to know if the latter is any better than than the former, and if yes, in what ways.
Therefore, we are putting up here a simple specification comparisons of Moto G and its successor, the Moto G 2nd Generation smartphone.
Display: With a 5-inch screen, the 2nd Generation Moto G is definitely bigger than its predeccesor whose screen measures 4.5-inches. However, both the phones have a 1280 x 720p resolution which, on the other hand, also means the drop in pixel per index(ppi) for the Moto G 2nd Generation to 294ppi compared to the 329ppi that the Moto G gives. Apart from that, both the Moto Gs come with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 glass.
Operating System: Both smartphones incorporate Android KitKat 4.4 as their operating system. However, in the case of Moto G 2014, it comes straight out of the box where as in the case of Moto G, it had to be upgraded. This OS allows the users to get a smooth smartphone experience with one of the biggest and largely used mobile operating systems.
Processor: Again, both the smartphones from Motorola come with a powerful 1.2GHz Qualcomm quad-core processor supported by Snapdragon 400. The smartphones have the same power in every area and will be a delight to the users. Those who have used the Moto G will have the same fun and feel the power in the Moto G 2nd Generation phone.
Camera: This is one area where Motorola has improved with in the Moto G 2nd Generation phone. With a 8MP rear camera, LED flash and a 2MP front-facing camera, it is just more than the 5MP and 1.2MP camera quality that its predeccesor offered. But regardless of that, both the smartphones have the capacity to record HD videos.
Memory: While the Moto G came with a 8GB and 16GB internal memory variant with no slot for microSD card, the latter has come with a card slot through which the internal memory of the phone can be expanded up to 32GB. This is definitely an advantage for the new Moto G phone. As for RAM, both come with a 1GB memory.
Battery: No winner or loser here as both the smartphones come with a 2070 mAh Li-Ion battery which the company claims to give up to 24 hours on mix usage. This is indeed a bold claim from Motorola considering hardly any smartphones give up to a day's usage on their battery lives.
Price: The budget of the smartphone is one area where any buyer would look into after going through all the features and specifications of the phones, and Motorola has not disappointed again. The price of Moto G at Rs 13,999 only for the 16GB variant considering its specifications, became a huge success within a short period. It was later slashed to Rs 12,499 only, Keeping that in mind, the company has priced the Moto G 2nd Generation temptingly at Rs 12,999 only. And this price is already making the phone a hit with the buyers once again.
