Xiaomi sells record-breaking 8 lakh units of Redmi Note 2 in mere 12 hours

Xiaomi has also made its presence in the Guinness book of World records previously for selling a total of 2.11 million smartphones within 24 hours in China.

New Delhi: Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi managed to sell a whopping 8 lakh units in mere 12 hours, which is a new record of smartphone sales for a Chinese company. The smartphone, which was announced last week, was up for flash sale in China on Sunday.

Xiaomi has also made its presence in the Guinness book of World records previously for selling a total of 2.11 million smartphones within 24 hours in China.

The company is expected to launch the smartphone in India as well. Xiaomi will hold an event in New Delhi on 19 August where it is expected to release the MIUI 7 too.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display. It packs an octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor (2GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 + 2GHz quad-core Cortex-A53) coupled with 2GB of RAM. The handset will be available in two storage variants - 16GB and 32GB, expandable via microSD card slot (up to 32GB).

It has a 13MP rear snapper and a 5MP front-facing camera. The device runs the company’s newest MIUI 7 that is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The device is now lighter than its predecessor at 160 grams and measures 152mm x 76mm x 8.25mm. It is fuelled by a 3,020 mAh battery.
