Washington: Video sharing app Vine is reportedly filled with a new trend, called #whaling, which refers to diving like a whale backwards in a public or unusual place and posting it on the site.

Vine's homepage has a list dedicated to the visual meme, which offers the appropriate explanation of what exactly whaling is.

According to Cnet, by definition, whaling refers to dive backwards with one's body in a public or unusual place, like a whale breaching the surface of the ocean.

The whaling movement has gone viral on the social media as it moves forward from the planking and Tebowing fads, and builds on the idea of doing something weird in unlikely places, but brings in the element of motion and sometimes sounds too.

The report said that the origin of the whaling movement is difficult to gauge, but it might have started with Vine user Worldchamp Santwon, whose whaling-in-McDonald's Vine has over 40,000 shares.
