Sony Xperia smartphones to get price cut?

Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony has reportedly decided to slash the prices of its Xperia range of smartphones in India.

New Delhi: Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony has reportedly decided to slash the prices of its Xperia range of smartphones in India.

The smartphone in the range to get price cut involves Z, T, C, E and M of the Xperia series. Reports are doing the round that the company may slash the prices between Rs 1,500 and Rs 6,500, however nothing official has been announced so far.

The latest launch of sony Xperia series in India was Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact.

The company in late September last year launched flagship smartphones Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact in India priced at Rs51,990 and Rs44,990, as the Japanese electronics giant aims to further strengthen its position in the premium handset category ruled by the likes of Apple, Samsung and HTC.

“We hold over 10% market share in India in the premium smartphone market and are targeting 40% contribution from Xperia sales to our total Sony India sales turnover of FY 2014 (14 April 2014-15 March 2015),” Sony India DGM (Sales and marketing) Sachin Rai had said.

Sony India is also expanding its distribution to 10,000 retail outlets including 250 exclusive Xperia Stores in FY 2014, he had said.
