New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday described the Rail Budget 2015 as a forward looking, futuristic and passenger centric Budget.

“I am particularly delighted that for the first time, there is a concrete vision for technology upgradation and modernisation of the Railways,” the PM said on microblogging website Twitter.

“Rail Budget 2015 is a forward looking, futuristic & passenger centric budget, combining a clear vision & a definite plan to achieve it.”

“Railway Budget 2015 is a watershed moment for Railways, marking a paradigm shift from discussing coaches and trains to comprehensive railway reform,” the PM added.

He also tweeted that the new rail budget stood out for its focus on the common man, putting speed, scale, service and safety, all on one track to make the Railways the key driver of India's economic growth.

Without tinkering with passenger fares, Minister Suresh Prabhu presented his maiden budget for Indian Railways in the Lok Sabha today, promising to balance passenger needs and long-term interests of the organisation and benchmark it globally on quality, safety and reach.
