New Delhi: German carmaker Volkswagen is planning to launch atleast 4 new cars over a period of 24 months, according to various media reports.

The new cars from the VW stable will be a new SUV, a premium sedan, luxury hatchback and a facelifted car.

The models include a Polo-based compact Saloon, Beetle, Passat (B8) and the Tiguan compact crossover. The Polo-based compact saloon is Volkswagen’s attempt to invade the sub-4 metre space that’s currently the roaming grounds of the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and a few more. The car is yet to be given a name by VW, but its importance in the Indian market is quite up there

The German car maker is looking at investing to a tune of Rs 1,500 crore in India and hopes to cater to both - emerging and developed markets across the globe.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen India reported 17.77 per cent increase in sales at 3,572 units in April.

The company had sold 3,033 units in the same month last year. The increase in sales comes on the back of recent successful launches of the new Jetta and Vento Magnific, Volkswagen India said in a statement.

Its hatchback Polo also contributed to increase in sales, it added.
