New Delhi: The Tata Nano diesel version, which has been under development for quite some time now, might not be showcased in the Delhi Auto expo 2014.

Media reports say that Tata might even give up the very idea of launching the car in the country owing to steep hike in diesel prices over the last few months.

The price difference between petrol and diesel have narrowed enormously, forcing the maker rethink its plan. Petrol price in Delhi currently costs Rs 71.50 while diesel rates are at Rs 53.80 in Delhi.

Moreover, the cost of the diesel engine especially with BS IV specification is proving to be expensive.

Meanwhile, the Nano diesel engine under development comes with configuration– one with a two-cylinder and the other with a three-cylinder. The company however undecided as to which diesel configuration will be launched first.
