New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India is testing its new 800cc diesel engine, which will be used by its Celerio hatchback.

The company will launch the Celerio diesel in the Indian car market in the first quarter of 2015, as per reports in the media. Currently, the small car is available in petrol and CNG fuel options.

It is expected to be Maruti’s first ever car to feature the company’s own diesel powertrain. The 80cc with twin-cylinder unit churns out 50bhp of power.

The Celerio will get a five-speed manual transmission version, driving the power to front wheels.

The company recently introduced the new Alto K10 with AMT gearbox, which is the country’s most affordable automatic diesel car.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 4.5-5.5 lakh and the car is expected to go on sale in this financial year.

Celerio hit the Indian roads in February 2014. Post its launch, the car has received good reviews and the demand for the set of wheels is surging and the company is finding hard to keep the increased demand.
