Speaking at the launch, Mahindra & Mahindra Chairman Anand Mahindra said.“This is the car which has become one of the most enduring brands in India. How many brands are there in this industry which lasted for 12 years.”

Pawan Goenka, Executive Director of M&M's automotive division, said, “The new generation Scorpio is a quantum leap.”

“If you are a car lover, once you drive it you won't want get out of it,” Goenka added.

The new car has been launched in five different variants starting from the base S2 model to the top-end S10 model.

Mahindra has priced the Scorpio competitively. S2 – 7.98 lakh, S4 – 8.60 lakh, S6 – 9.77 lakh, S8 – 10.84 lakh and S10 – 11.46 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom Mumbai).

Styling and Features

While the over all profile of the new Scorpio remains the same as that of the outgoing model, there are a host of new design elements.

A new grille with chrome highlights, redesigned bumpers, daytime running lights, LED tail lights, 17-inch alloy wheels on the exterior, the new Scorpio retains its commanding presence.

However, the big changes those that have been made in the interior. All-new black and grey dashboard with chrome finish AC vents, blue and grey upholstery, height adjustable driver seat and new instrument cluster are an improvement on the outgoing model.

Mahindra has also made it sure that the vehicle appeals to the frill lovers. A 6-inch touch screen entertainment system with inbuilt GPS, automatic temperature control, steering mounted cruise and audio controls, reverse parking assist and type pressure indicator are some of the features than come loaded in the top end version.

The steering wheel has been borrowed from Scorpio's pricier cousin the SUV500, adding to its premium feel. The top model also offers 4×4 with Shift-on-Fly which makes switching to the all wheel mode an effortless exercise.

All New platform

The company claims that the Scorpio 2014 has been built on a all-new platform that markedly increases the ride quality and handling of the vehicle.

While all variants, barring the entry level S2, have the tried and tested 2.2-litre mHawk engine doing the duty, company officials stressed that the engine is a lot more refined and comes wedded with a new transmission, clutch, rear axle and chassis.

Turning radius has reduced form 5.7 metres to 5.4 meters, thereby increasing Scorpio's agility on the road.

The company claims that the new Scorpio will deliver a mileage of 15.37 kmpl.

Two new colours – Molten Red and Regal Blue – have been added to the existing shades Diamond White, Fiery Black and Misty Blue

In a first, the company has tied up with e-commerce website snapdeal for bookings besides through the showroom network.
