Harley-Davidson bikers in Goa to mark 110th anniversary

More than 500 Harley-Davidson riders have landed in Goa to mark the 110th anniversary celebrations of the US-based iconic bike-maker.

Panaji: More than 500 Harley-Davidson riders have landed in Goa to mark the 110th anniversary celebrations of the US-based iconic bike-maker.

"This is the first celebration in the long line of celebrations planned globally by Harley-Davidson," said Anoop Prakash, Managing Director, Harley-Davidson India.

Harley-Davidson enthusiasts from far-flung places such as Chandigarh and Bhubaneshwar have arrived in the coastal state.

"There is a group of ten riders who have come from Chandigarh, travelling 2,000-odd kilometres, while there is 69-year-old rider who has come with nephew as a pillion all the way from Bhubaneshwar," Prakash said.

Karen Davidson, the great grand-daughter of Harley Davidson co-founder, William Davidson, who is at present creative director of Harley-Davidson General Merchandise, is also here.

The US-based company launched its first bike in India in 2010 at Delhi Auto Expo. Currently there are 2,000 Harley-Davidsons on Indian roads, Prakash said.

The company has opened its first assembly plant in India in Haryana.

Talking to reporters here, Davidson said that she was excited to be here. "It's always a pleasure to meet and ride alongside Harley-Davidson owners, and the level of passion and enthusiasm amongst members is remarkable," she said, adding that she was the first member of her family to visit India.
