New Delhi: Ford India on Monday reported over two-fold increase in total sales at 12,288 units in May 2014.

It had sold 5,993 units in the same month last year, Ford India said in a statement.

Domestic sales were up 51.24 percent to 6,053 units in May as against 4,002 units in the same month previous year, it added.

The company exported 6,235 units last month as against 1,991 units in the year-ago period.

Ford India Executive Director (Marketing, Sales and Service) Vinay Piparsania said: "A stable government is a positive development for overall economic and business sentiment in the country. We are hopeful that the new government will support ongoing industry-friendly initiatives like the excise duty reduction and look at further positive measures to improve consumer sentiment."

He further said: "We would look forward to the new government undertaking measures such as introduction of GST, rationalisation of taxes and encourage foreign investment to promote sustained growth of the economy and the automotive sector."

In May, the company had reopened bookings for all variants of its compact SUV EcoSport.
"With over 50,000 units of the EcoSport delivered, we have significantly reduced the waiting period," Piparsania said.
