'Padmaavat' beats lifetime collection of Salman Khan's Sultan, becomes 6th highest grosser

The film has become the sixth highest worldwide grosser of all time after 'Baahubali 2', 'Dangal, 'Secret Superstar', 'PK' and 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'.

New Delhi:  Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama 'Padmaavat', which stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in pivotal roles, is shattering records on a large scale. The film which has been on the receiving end of praises for the spectacular performances of all the actors. 

Now, according to a report, the film has become the sixth highest grossers of all time as it has crossed the Rs 300 crore-mark at the ticket counter. According to trade analyst Ramesh Lala, the film has earned a total of Rs 301 crores at the box office, thus beating the lifetime domestic collection of Salman Khan-Anushka Sharma-starrer 'Sultan'. 

He tweeted, "#Padmaavat with it's 52 days All-India Nett of ₹ 301 Crs has surpassed #Sultan 's life-time All-India Nett of ₹ 300.45 Crs to become All-time No.6 Hindi movie in India."

The film has become the sixth highest worldwide grosser of all time after 'Baahubali 2', 'Dangal, 'Secret Superstar', 'PK' and 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'.

Actor Ranveer Singh, who was highly praised by audiences and critics for portraying the character of Alauddin Khilji in 'Padmaavat', said that the movie will always be a gem in his filmography. 

"Padmaavat is a historic film for our country. I'm overwhelmed and extremely happy that the film has received this much love from audiences not just in India, but also the world over. It is a film that is and will always be extremely close to my heart and with it becoming my first ever Rs 300 crore film, the memory of 'Padmaavat' will be that much more special," he said. 

He thanked Bhansali for his vision, and for giving him a character like Khilji that "will forever glow in my body of work". Not many know that Bhansali had been planning the film, an adaptation of Malik Muhammad Jayasi's epic 'Padmavat' for a decade.

'Padmaavat' is the third collaboration between Ranveer and Deepika with Bhansali. The trio had worked before in 'Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela' and 'Bajirao Mastani', while it is Shahid's first film with the three. Their co-star from the previous films, Priyanka Chopra was also in consideration to play the title role.

The movie recently crossed 50 days since hitting the screens and continues to rake in moolah at the Box Office.
