Mumbai: Akshay Kumar is shooting for Kesari, a film based on the Battle of Saragarhi, produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma productions. The hunk of an actor, who recently made a splash on the silverscreen as an unusual superhero – Padman – took to Twitter Thursday to share an adorable pic from the sets of the period film.

He tweeted: “Innocent smiles galore on set today. Shooting with these lovely children playing Afghani kids in #Kesari based on the Battle Of Saragarhi, one of the bravest battles fought in India (sic).”

Kesari is a film based on the Battle of Saragarhi. Akshay will essay Havaldar Ishar Singh, the military commander of 21 Sikh regiment, who on September 12, 1897, fought bravely against Afghani invaders in the war which eventually came to be known as the battle of Saragarhi.

The film directed by Anurag Singh has gone on floors and is slated to release on 21 March 2019.

Parineeti Chopra has been roped in to play the leading lady opposite Akshay. She is thrilled to be a part of the film. Upon being chosen as the female lead, Parineeti took to Twitter to thank the makers of the film.

She tweeted: “She tweeted: “So excited to be a part of this legendary journey!!! Thankyouuu @karanjohar @akshaykumar @DharmaMovies #AnuragSingh #Kesari (sic).”

For the unversed, Salman Khan was initially a part of the film as a co-producer. But on realising that Ajay Devgn had announced a film on the same subject much earlier, the Dabangg Khan decided to walk out of the project, which would have been his first joint production with Johar, reports suggest.

Interestingly, Randeep Hooda too is doing a film based on this subject.
