When Aamir woke me up!

I’m not used to seeing him craving for publicity, which is why I did begin to have a change of heart for him before I watched ‘3 Idiots’…just in time! From giving ‘Ghajini’ haircuts to gate crashing at a wedding bash to virtually disappearing into thin air, Aamir created hysteria in the name of creative marketing for films.

Why did he really have to go over the top with that when his credibility and the ever so measured histrionics give all the backing for his movies! Let me clarify he’s been my favourite since ever, he still remains, which is perhaps why I was shocked to see him doing stuff, which can possibly be related more to Shah Rukh’s exaggerated persona!

I can never shake his cult dialogues off my memory, and I’d rather swear by Andaz Apna Apna anytime! Aamir has been someone who’s always stood out from the league – who’s very dignified in his ways and most importantly - minds his own business, so much so that he loves not to attend events perhaps to make an exception. Innovation was to have him walking the ramp, or perhaps designing T-shirts, but before this, who would hear about Aamir getting a hotel or someone into trouble, intentionally or unintentionally, for nothing but publicity!

It didn’t feel nice of course when Shah Rukh termed Aamir’s supposedly smart promotional strategies as ‘Chhichhorapan’. For those who’ve not been following the news, Aamir visited a wedding in Punjab uninvited in the garb of a foreigner for …whatever…which irked Shah Rukh so much that he decided to hit below the belt and thrashed Aamir’s act as mean and rowdy. The wildness was harder to disagree with when Aamir was spotted inside a ladies loo! It forced me to think twice about the dignity in his utterances, though he’s always been the ‘God’ of the industry for me. I don’t want to be agreeing with Shah Rukh, not even for once please…

But finally, I’m so glad Aamir brainwashed me this time, and actually woke me up to the fact that he is not the kind, who will appear shirtless only because he’s built this body!

For all those who’ve watched his latest offering – I am sure you guys noticed how perfectly his body-language suits that of a 22-year-old (despite him being 44) when Boman Irani drags him out of his cabin.

Or how he reminds you of your hostel days or your first love when the film swings between Rancho’s (Aamir) romance with the spirited Kareena Kapoor! His clash with an oppressive mentor is like everyone’s way of life! Aamir’s impact on the film is so overwhelming that it leaves you spellbound for hours after it has ended.

It's like we waited the whole year watching many inconsequential films, many overrated hits and some good films - and here comes Aamir Khan. I saw the film in a jam packed multiplex and believe me…I really struggled to make it to the theatre. Not because of the traffic, for a change, but it was a ‘House Full’ everywhere. And I had gone with my family…just somehow managed to bag the last four tickets – got really lucky there…hmm…never mind those front row seats though!

And then the theatre darkened and the screen lit up – and the rest, as you know, is history...

So thankfully, just when Aamir as a marketing guru was beginning to get on my nerves, Aamir, the actor, made me eat my words!
