I saw it about a week back and I’m still high on the songs. The film has come out nearly perfect; critics have used the most positive words to laud the film that has set the youth rocking!

After watching the film, I went crazy beyond words for Farhan. Not that the film’s story is such that excites you to the core, but trust me there is something ‘magik’al about Farhan that has probably worked for ‘Rock On’, even more. I know I sound biased, but I don’t really care, I just loved him in there, every moment for every single thing - from his foot-tapping singing to those long curly locks.

All those who have seen and liked ‘Rock On’ (especially all the girls out there) would not think twice before agreeing with me when I say that his disarming smile, dimpled cheeks, and a strong nasal baritone make you completely drool over him. And for those who differ with that for some strange reason, I say - he is a genius in himself.

Coming down to what I started the post with, it’s not merely because of his looks that people are big time fida on him, but what’s more loving about the heartthrob is the fact that he doesn’t come across as a debutante in acting and singing. The guy could be easily compared with Hrithik, or if I may say so, SRK, for the way he has acted in the film. This might sound too big a compliment or comparison for someone who is just a film old, but I dare to mention that because I fail to think of any another debutante Bollywood actor, who pulled off such an unconventional role with such élan.

From a director to an actor and a singer now, Farhan has proved that he rocks in all the three categories.

Farhan’s ‘Rock On’ has finally paved way for Rock music in Bollywood, which was earlier appreciated by a select audience mostly comprising hippies and drug addicts with ruffled hair and messy mien. Not only has the film been able to change the very perception of the general mass towards Rock music, it has also made people realize that those who dope and head-bang…also have raw talent in them!

Frankly, I have never been so familiar with Rock music that I can give an expert comment on the kind of ‘Hindustani Rock’ this film boasts of. Some of my friends have even rejected the idea of tagging Rock On’s music as the real ‘Rock’. But without going into the technicalities, the point I maintain is that the feel of the ‘so called Rock’ has immensely appealed to the masses. Moreover, I believe, there could not have been a better way to introduce something even close to Rock in Hindi films!

Such was the magic of the ‘Magik’ band in ‘Rock On’ that I could not hold myself back into the seat every time the foursome performed, and happily enough it was not just me who found it difficult to stay put.

While talking about Farhan’s musical success, we cannot afford to ignore the contribution of his very opinionated and individualistic father Javed Akhtar. Who could have thought that Javed Akhtar, who has always pleased the audience, the listeners and the critics with his simplistic, yet meaningful songs could also write songs with a Rock feel…?

But the fact is that he did it… and he did it well… maybe because it was for his son’s debut!

Though Javed has written songs of lighter vein and used his tongue-in-cheek humour earlier, but his latest offering - Meri laundry ka ek bill or Sindbad the Sailor has added another star to his already existing 5-star versatility.

Now, that’s too much on Javed Akhtar…let’s get back to Farhan!

One really needs the guts and confidence to be noticed among those who have been stalwarts in the singing industry. Being a non-professional singer and then, belting out six out of nine songs for a mainstream commercial film, is no child’s play, but Farhan did it and his efforts have been appreciated. My attempt is to emphasize that since he plays a singer in the film, he showed his honesty and dedication to his work by singing the songs himself to make it look authentic.

I swear, the more I write about him, the more intense is the feeling to hum the songs more …and as I do so… I’m still trying to coax my friends to watch the movie with me once again. Can’t wait to see him again because by now you know…I’m dying to relive the ‘magik’ of ‘Rock On’!
