Healthy virtually, sick really!

Have you flocked to an SNS (Social Networking Site) yet or are you an exception to the rule? For it’s truly a put off if you don’t have a FB account, or if you don’t flaunt a long list of friends on the same, or if you don’t change your status message every few minutes, or whatever! I personally know people who are constantly glued to their cell phone busy responding, updating friend lists, checking mails…(special thanks to iPhone and Blackberry) I can’t help to stare at them…wonder just how bad this sickness has spread.

It was embarrassing when one of my colleagues sneered at me on spotting the same pic of me on my official blog and on my FB account. Am I being indifferent here…I mean if it was that big a deal, why didn’t it strike me in the first place…

I can’t say it's silly and juvenile for I do enjoy social networking like anybody else, but for some people (most I know), it seems to have reached a very unhealthy point in life.

However, considering the fact that I don’t prefer being indifferent, I really did challenge myself to go with the flow and tried keeping up with the pace of those I know in that rather virtual world …but I found it really impossible to get hold of the way they manage. Going back home after working for 9 continuous hours in my office chair, right in front of my comp, it was perhaps a bit too much, when I tried practicing turning on my comp and spending hours updating myself on Facebook there too.

I choose to guess that others really have all the time in this world to harvest crops and earn money in an imaginably virtual dome!

That’s FarmVille…Gosh…my ears and my life is tired of that term, thanks to some of my ‘over-zealous’ pals! How they discuss their supposed crops can be a cue to the way recession could have been discussed out of our lives! I’m pretty sure that they are out of their mind, but how can everyone be addicted to one thing, for it’s not smoking!

I give up…it’s nothing less than a full time job for me. I know it’s sort of a social obligation, but how the heck can someone spend so much time on it. I personally can’t figure some time out for it after the grueling hours at workplace, that are more than enough to at least keep me busy.

Well, the insanity is simply not restricted to that…how can someone take pleasure in displaying his personal and professional accomplishments through the social network? I believe I'm so much more productive without it!

Think of the addiction level…No matter where they are - out with family, at workplace, pub, park…or wherever, they cannot stop checking their Facebook a/c. I see it happening more and more everywhere. So, the ability to stay connected with others, even if you barely know them or haven’t seen them in ten years or just saw them last weekend, seems to be consuming their lives.

But am I the only one who’s noticed this? Isn’t social networking really taking over your life? I guess you may have become a FB celebrity by now, but how you are being disconnected from the real world urgently needs to be realised.

So let’s just try and get the real ‘life’ back now!

Something to share: Facebook’s 300 million users collectively spend more than 8 billion minutes on the site each day. On a busy day, an eye-popping 1.2 million photos are served on Facebook each second.
