New Delhi: The Sharad Yadav led-JU(U) faction on Sunday announced it would submit a fresh application soon to stake a claim for the party symbol.
The Election Commission had earlier asked Yadav to provide evidence to back his demand.
"We will be submitting a fresh application very soon," Yadav said on Sunday.
Relations between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav fell apart after the former ended his government's alliance with Lalu Yadav-led Rashtriya Janata Dal.
An infighting broke out within the party with one faction supporting Nitish while the other backing Yadav.
Both factions petitioned the Election Commission to stake a claim on the party symbol.
On September 13, the commission returned Yadav's application, saying it was not supported by relevant documents.
Nitish Kumar had also filed a counter plea. He submitted to the commission that Yadav had voluntarily left the party.
Meanwhile, Yadav has called for a party convention on October 8 in New Delhi to decide further course of action.
"We are the real JD(U) and we will prove it in the coming days. You will be surprised to see the way we are going to expand it," Sharad told reporters here. "We are going to hold our national convention in Delhi on October 8 where we will decide our future course of action," he added.
