Threat of blasts across India if Malbari not released

An anonymous caller threatened to carry out blasts across the country if Rashid Malbari, Dawood Ibrahim’s sharpshooter targeting Varun Gandhi, was not released.

Bangalore, April 01: An anonymous caller threatened to carry out blasts across the country if Rashid Malbari, Dawood Ibrahim’s sharpshooter targeting Varun Gandhi, was not released.

Rashid Malbari, a member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang, was recently nabbed in Mangalore.

The call was received by a Mangalore newspaper. It asked the police to let Malbari go and threatened there would be bomb blasts if the same was not done, Mangalore police confirmed.

"The information we have is that Malbari and four of his
associates, nabbed in Ullal on the outskirts of Mangalore on
March 29, were conspiring to assassinate prominent political
figures. There were many names on their hit list, Varun could
be one," Director General and Inspector General of Police, Karnataka, Ajai Kumar Singh told agencies.

He said the five underworld criminals were working on
directions given from abroad to assassinate or kidnap for
ransom and execute prominent political leaders to disrupt the
poll process.

The five have been remanded to judicial custody till
April 13.

Mumbai police to seek Mlanbari custody

Mumbai police will be seeking
the custody of Rashid
Malbari, a senior police
official said today.

"We will be sending our team to Karnataka sometime
next week with a transfer warrant seeking the custody of
Malbari, who is wanted in three murder cases in the city,"
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria said.
