Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu led a cycle rally on Friday morning to demand for special status for his state. Attempting to ramp up pressure on Centre with each passing day, Naidu led a fairly large group on cycles to the Secretariate here.

Recent weeks have seen an increased demand for special status for Andhra Pradesh - an assurance Telugu Desam Party says it was given when Telangana was formed. While TPD-BJP alliance has taken a big hit, Naidu has made several visits to Delhi and has also held talks with opposition leaders. On Friday, he used his cycle as a form of protest to highlight the demand for special status.

Once he and his fellow cyclists reached the Secretariate, Naidu held a teleconference with party MPs and accused BJP of avoiding his demand. "BJP is running away by repeatedly adjourning Parliament for last many days," he said. "If Parliament is adjourned sine die today, our MPs must meet the President."

Part two of the Budget Session ends on Friday and it is unlikely that a tumultuous few weeks will have a constructive end.
