New Delhi: With the Delhi Assembly elections round the corner, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday said her party "is on strong turf", as Congress has in the last 15 years transformed the national capital into a modern city.
Dikshit said that Delhiites are mature enough to decide their future and added that they have the choice of opting for performers or non-performers.
"The Congress has a long experience of 15 years of transforming Delhi from a state lacking infrastructure to a state boasting of its magnificent, modern and longer lasting infrastructure.
"The people of Delhi are mature enough to decide their future as the choice is very limited. They have to choose between the performers and non-performers," Dikshit said during her election campaign in three assembly constituencies- Nangloi, Mundka and Kirari-in support of the Congress candidates there.
She said that her government has performed well in almost all sectors including transport, health, education, power distribution, rural development, environment apart from focusing on the social sector.
"The government which spent 65 per cent of its budget on social sector had been keen to provide a reliable and useful social security network in order to empower the poor and other weaker sections of the society in true sense," she said.
Dikshit also said that her government in the last 15 years has "strived hard to ensure uniform development across the city" and in contrast to the BJP regime of 1993-1998, Congress has also "focused on the villages".
"Our government had been receiving complaints about the badly damaged roads in the rural belt as the ruling BJP in the corporations had no time and interest to attend to such complaints. The Congress government took an important decision of transferring such roads to the PWD.
"The PWD accomplished a wonderful job by making these roads wide, longer-lasting and motorable. The government spent Rs 2,000 crore on this," she said.
Speaking about the work done by Congress government on the rural front, Dikshit said, "The government extended Lal Dora after a gap of a century and simplified the Delhi Land Rules to provide relief to the villagers and allow them to go for construction on agriculture land.
"As the government effected regularisation of unauthorised colonies in the urban parts, it was decided to provide the benefit of regularisation to extended village abadis. The process is on. Most of the villages are connected to the outer ring road in the capital city."
She also said that her government has also commissioned e-Sub Registrar offices in the rural belt and is following Mahatma Gandhi`s ideals to transform villages into places having abundant modern and civic amenities.
Giving details about the development work undertaken so far, she said that her government has been working on making the outer ring road from Vikaspuri to Wazirabad signal-free with construction of six flyovers and six elevated roads.
"The rural area is also being catered by the existing metro network. Gurgaon-Jahangirpuri line is being extended upto Badli, the work is likely to be completed soon.
"Inderlok-Mundka line is being extended upto Bahadurgarh to benefit remaining villages beyond Mundka in the Capital city," she said.
Dikshit went on to say that the civic amenities in the villages have also been improved to match it with the other urban localities.
She added that the Food Security Program launched by her government would benefit all eligible persons including villagers.
"There is no end to the development process. We have to go a long way, though we have covered a lot," she said, calling on the people to decide about the future of Delhi.
She exhorted people to vote for the Congress party and ensure victory of its candidates to enable the party to stake a claim for formation of the next government.
